By Snyder Orthodontics:
During October, orthodontic offices throughout the country work together to promote their services and inform the community about the important work we do in recognition of National Orthodontic Health Month.
National Orthodontic Health Month is an awareness campaign created cooperatively by orthodontists and other dental health professionals. During this month, we make a special effort to promote dental health, and orthodontic health, in particular. This is a great time to get your questions answered by dental professionals in your community and to learn more about exactly what an orthodontist can do for you and your family. Meeting one of us in person before your checkup is a great way to find out what kind of person you’ll be seeing during your appointment.
How You Can Participate in National Orthodontic Health Month
With patient education at the forefront, October is the perfect time to visit the orthodontist! Here are a few pointers to keep in mind:
- The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children be seen by an orthodontist by age 7. This enables the doctor to determine what issues, if any, are present. This early start allows the orthodontist to identify early warning signs to monitor, as well as tackle current issues while the jaw is still growing.
- Your child does not need to have lost all of his/her baby teeth before going to the orthodontist. Going to the orthodontist before all your child’s baby teeth have been lost allows Dr. Snyder to examine their jaw growth and to ensure that your child’s adult teeth are growing correctly. This allows for early identification of potential issues and, in some cases, more effective treatment outcomes with early orthodontic intervention.
- You CAN visit the orthodontist as an adult! While your treatment options may seem less impressive, there are many ways for an adult to get the smile of their dreams, including clear aligner therapy and lingual braces for aesthetics.
Dental health is something that affects everyone; healthy teeth and gums contribute to a healthy smile and lifetime of comfort and well-being. Orthodontists are just one of the various dental practitioners you could visit at some point in your life, so taking a little time to learn who we are and what we do is certain to be a helpful experience.
Dr. Snyder and the team at Snyder Orthodontics is always happy to accept new patients. Schedule your complimentary consultation today to get started!
